Presenting Glashutte Watches at Harrods London

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

The summer is slowly coming to London and for us watch enthusiasts there are plenty of events happening. Glashütte Original, German Watchmaking Art since 1845, has set up shop in the Fine Watch Room of Harrods and is providing to us fellow Londoners, their expertise in manufacturing chronographs. The exhibition is on until the 24th of June 2015 so do go and visit them.

One of the main centre pieces is the “Wondertable” showcasing the individual components of Glashütte Calibre 37. The in-house chronograph movement Calibre 37 was presented for the first time in 2014.

The Calibre 37 is at the heart of two of their main timepieces namely: Senator Chronograph Panorama Date and the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. The movement was the first Glashütte Original had conceived and built inhouse specifically as a chronograph, power reserve of 70 hours and the simplified movement has increased stability which resulted in improved time keeping.

Glashutte Watches

Fellow followers, should you be looking for a classic timepiece for that next important meeting do have a look at the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date. All hands are in blued steel and the dial is framed by an elegant bezel. The case is satin brushed and polished in either platinum or red gold. The Senator Chronograph Panorama Date fits well on a tailored suit.

If on the other hand you are looking for a timepiece which has a more sportier feel to it, then the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date could be your next timepiece. It features a polished and soft cornered square bezel and the satin brushed case in stainless steel brings back the vintage look and feel. It is a nice luxury time piece for a less formal event and would go well with chinos and a shirt as the summer is just around the corner.

Gentlemen and fellow followers, connoisseurs and watch enthusiasts, you are all cordially invited to visit Glashütte Original exhibition at the Fine Watch Room of Harrods in Knightsbridge.

Luxury Timepiece Buying Guide

Fellow followers, whilst travelling we have been meeting quite a few fellow luxury gentlemen and gentlewomen who asked us the same question: “how do I go about buying my first timepiece?”.

Rolex Submariner

In this article, we will be going through some of the basic steps to buying a luxury watch. This is a quick and easy timepiece buying guide. If you are in the market for a new luxury watch or a pre-owned timepiece, the basic guide to buying your first timepiece remains the same.

1. Budget

Firstly and foremost, your budget is the most important part to starting your journey. Timepiece prices range greatly so knowing your budget before getting into the research phase is very important, more importantly once decided stick to it. A good Swiss watch can range from as little as £500 and up to £5M! You can read our article on luxury watches.

2. Research

Once your budget is fixed, the second phase is the research. When you delve into the world of timepieces, you will quickly notice that there are multiple places from which you will be able to purchase your first timepiece. There are official retailers, second hand dealers and more and more online retailers.

Watchfinder store

A word of caution, we would recommend reading reviews of the places that you are planning on visiting buying your timepiece from as this is one of the best methods to find out if that dealer is genuine. You can read a good article that can help avoiding buying a fake watch.

3. Investment

A luxury timepiece is somewhat similar to buying a car. It is an expensive purchase that carries a price tag but also holds a sentimental value to the owner.

As with any form of investment, you will want to take care of your first timepiece. Insurance is a good start, as there are many brokers out there offering good deals. It is important to note that usual home insurance doesn’t necessarily covers luxury timepieces.

4. Warranty & Aftercare

One of the most important factors to take into consideration when looking at buying your first timepiece, if pre-owned, is whether it is still under manufacturer guaranty. Because of amounts of money involved in luxury watches, many resellers offer their own watch guaranty, but double check what this covers!

Another point to think about is the aftercare. A bit like a car, a luxury timepiece has many complicated movements that need to be regularly checked to see that everything is working correctly. Brands recommend servicing your watch every three to five years to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

Rolex Submariner Aftercare5. Water Resistance

One aspect that seems to confuse potential first time watch buyers is the numbers on the dial describing the watch’s water resistance. Here is a quick recap, but if you want to learn more here is a good article:

  • 30 metres water resistance will repel rain, but shouldn’t be submerged in water.
  • 50 metres water resistance can be worn for swimming
  • 100 metres for snorkelling
  • 200 metres for more extreme water sports.
  •  500 metres water resistance for water diving, although those specially designed for professional SCUBA diving might come with 1000 metres or more on the dial

6. Purchasing

Once you have finally decided your budget, whether you want a new or pre-owned timepiece and decided from which retailer you want to purchase from, it doesn’t end there!

Handing over a considerable amount of money for your first timepiece is no laughing matter. Every time piece is unique and even within a specific model, a year compared to another one, there could be minor changes which changes the timepiece.

It’s always worth trying before buying. Most establishments are happy for you to call and make an appointment so as you don’t feel rushed into committing.

In conclusion, buying your first timepiece is much like a journey on which you can learn a lot whilst making a sound investment. If you have any questions please do email us or get in touch on Twitter/Facebook and we will be happy to help you fellows out.

The Roof Gardens London One Day Event

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

If you are visiting London this summer and are looking for the perfect place that combines: rooftop bar, party people, good music, great location then look no more as The Roof Gardens offers all of these.

Welcome to The Roof Gardens - the roof gardens london

For those who haven’t been to The Roof Gardens before, it is located in the chic and area of W8 (High Street Kensington to the non Londoners). Situated on top of the previously well known Derry & Tom’s Department store (now above M&S, H&M, GAP and High Street Kensington Tube Station) The Roof Gardens boast a fantastic location in central London and should not be missed this summer 2014.

The Roof Gardens are more than your average London club. Renowned for their high end gardens (achieving 4* on Trip Advisor ), the three gardens are definitely worth a visit: The Spanish Garden, as the name suggests, is based on the style from Granada in Spain. The Tudor Garden, surrounds you in lilies, roses and lavender during the summer months. Finally, the English Woodland Garden the best of the 3 during the summer months with thousands of anemones bursting into life.

The Roof Gardens - the roof gardens london

The Club is also well known for its moto of “no effort – no entry” – very much in line with our own philosophy! Furthermore the famous restaurant – Babylon – sets the scene by being on the 7th floor and showcases London’s amazing skyline.

We were lucky enough to be granted VIP access to The Roof Gardens One Day event. Our fellows from The Roof Gardens definitely know how to celebrate the start of the summer and the kicking off of the outdoor party season. We weren’t disappointed by the turnout on the day as all the gentlemen and gentle ladies from London turned up promptly and dressed the part.

The Roof Gardens One Day event - the roof gardens london

The atmosphere was buzzing to the beats of Benny Blanco, DJames, Serene Sass and Basil (Black-II-Basic) and the drinks were flowing all afternoon in the hot English weather.

Gentlemen if you are looking for an establishment in London which is more than your average club, that has character and history, then The Roof Gardens is a definite recommendation.

Introducing Watchfinder

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

We joined our fellows from Watchfinder on Thursday for a very special event at their boutique at The Royal Exchange in Bank. The master class brought together like minded gentlemen and gentlewomen to discuss the latest trends in the luxury watch industry.

Watchfinder Reader Event

We had the opportunity to meet the team from the Watchfinder at the event, who were kind enough to share with us their points of views on the watch industry and news about their new edition of the Watchmag (you can download their app here) . We also had the chance to see one of their watchmakers showcasing their art.

If you fellows are in the market and are looking to purchase a new timepiece or currently in the research phase, we would recommend you getting in touch with the gentlemen from Watchfinder. We came by the fellows from Watchfinder during our research for our first timepiece.

Rolex GMT Master

We opted for the classical Rolex Submariner Datejust for a few reasons. We were really interested by the history behind the Rolex Submariner. Designed for diving (up to 300m) by Rolex, the Submariner is known for its high quality, water resistance and corrosion. With the summer coming up, we thought it best to procure ourselves a luxury watch that would resist sea water.

Rolex Submariner

Another reason is that the Rolex Submariner is a good entry level timepiece for the fellows entering the luxury watch ladder. It won’t lose value over time and it could help with your next luxury timepiece acquisition. Our fellows at Watchfinder can help you with your upgrade since their moto is “Pre-owned Uncompromised”.

So Gentlemen, if you are interested in learning more about the latest trends in the luxury watch industry download their app here. If you are also looking to purchase your next luxury timepiece then visit our fellows at Watchfinder.

Most Expensive Luxury Watches

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

For most of us pay day has just arrived and for some of our fellows, Q2 bonuses are just around the corner. With these in mind, we thought it would be a good time to showcase a few interesting luxury watches. As some of your gentlemen will agree, a watch is much more than just an item that gives you the time.

Hublot Big Bang Steel Ceramic 44mm

Hublot Big Bang Steel Ceramic 44mm – £13,700

A personal favourite of Luxurymenblog is the Hublot Big Bang Steel Ceramic 44mm. The Swiss manufacturer is renowned for their “art of fusion” of different material combinations. This is the entry level watch in terms of price, but it does portrait a sense of edginess and stylish feel when worn. The combination of steel and ceramic gives the timepiece an extra sense of luxury. The movement is Hublot’s Self Winding Chronograph movement.

Patek Philippe 2526

Patek Philippe 2526 – £26,900

For our fellows who prefer the more classic timpiece, the Patek Philippe 2526 is a safe choice. Originally introduced in the 1950s, it was Patek’s first automatic movement which is considered an iconic watch by many collectors. The 18K gold case and porcelain dial offers something different to us fellow gentlemen. Only 600 2526 timepieces were created by Patek Philippe, making this watch quite rare.

If these two previous timepieces were indeed on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of price, the following timepieces are for the gentlemen who have some spare money to spend from their left over bonus.

LOUIS MOINET METEORIS WATCH

Louis Moinet Meteoris Watch ~ Price £2,760,000

The third most expensive timepiece in the world, the Louis Moinet Meteoris watch. The collection is comprised of 4 models, including Tourbillion Mars, Tourbillon Moon, Tourbillion Rosetta Stone and the Tourbillion Asteroid. Each timepiece features a rare piece of meteorite making each piece unique. Our personal favourite is the Tourbillion Mars, not only for the look but because the piece has a 180M piece of meteorite featuring in it as well as the tourbillion movement.

PATEK PHILIPPE – HENRY GRAVES – POCKET WATCH

Patek Philippe – Henry Graves – Pocket Watch ~ Price: £6,600,000

Fellows, we are now entering a different league of gentlemen. The special pocket watch produced by Patek Philippe for the famous American banker Henry Graves. Being the second most expensive timepiece in the World the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Pocket Watch is by far a super rich timepiece. The watchmakers took 5 years to complete the timepiece in 1933 and boasts 24 different movements and is 18K gold. A very interesting timepiece as it has history behind it.

So Gentlemen, which would you pick?

Luxury Shopping at Bicester Village

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

With the clocks moving forward an hour, and the Spring nearly upon us, it was time for us to upgrade our wardrobe and accessories at one of London’s stylish shopping outlets. We decided to embark on a luxury journey for the day from London for some luxury shopping to the renowned Bicester Village. Technically speaking, Bicester Village is located on the outskirts of Oxford, an 1h15 North West of London.

Bicester Village

Bicester Village is part of the Chic Outlet Shopping® Villages by Value Retail. The company specialises exclusively in the development of luxury outlet shopping villages. In fact, during our last visit to Barcelona, we visited La Roca Village which is part of the same group for some international outlet luxury shopping.

A kind word of caution, for the fellow gentlemen wanting to attempt the exploration of Bicester Village, we would strongly recommend having an early night to visit the village at its opening to fully enjoy the experience. Surrounded by likeminded gentlemen and fellows, it is easy to get carried away!

We visited several of our favourite brands during our visit, Burberry, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach and Timberland to name a few. You can find the full list of stores here.

Bicester Village - Polo Outlet

One of our new acquisitions was Timberland’s Earthkeeper Heritage 2 Eye, also known as Timberland’s Boat shoe.

Bicester Village - Timberland

Made from premium leather and rawhide lace, it is a classic item for any gentleman. The boat shoe can be worn for both formal and informal events and a nice addition to ones summer style. You can find them on the official site here or even better you can go to Bicester Village to pick them up!

Another luxury acquisition was the Coach Cardholder which we have been trying to locate for some time now. Crafted in tanned leather with hand-aligned pockets, it is a nice accessory to complete your business look.

Bicester Village - Coach
So Gentlemen, if you are looking for a day out close to London, Bicester Village is the place to visit should you need a new wardrobe or new accessories to upgrade your look.

Introducing Mr PORTER & PORTeR

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

With London Fashion Week 2014 out of the way and now returning to your day-to-day, you may have seen the below cover at every newsstand since last week. This is PORTeR, the latest magazine launched by NET-A-PORTER, the online luxury fashion retailer. If you’ve never heard of it, the women in your life have. NET-A-PORTER.COM targets women with a flair for designer clothing, accessories and cosmetics – heck, women with a sense for luxe-living!

Mr Porter

Photograph: NET-A-PORTER GROUP

But what of us Gentlemen?

This question did not fall on deaf ears. The NET-A-PORTER GROUP launched MR PORTER in early 2011 and have called it the men’s style destination. What you will find there is everything and anything to tailor your look. Familiar categories each week guide you through gentlemen clothing, shoes, men bags, luxury maintenance products, high end accessories and gadgets– every item a gentleman could need to round off his style.

Mr Porter

It doesn’t stop there. MR PORTER became more than just an online retailer of luxury goods for us fellow gents when it launched its very own online magazine called THE JOURNAL. This monthly online publication is very sleek. It jumps quite easily from a serious piece on ex-servicemen to the challenge of pulling off wearing a cardigan, this year’s favoured sneaker brands and why every man wants to be Bond. Its enjoyable reading and appeals to the modern man with luxury interests.

Aside from all the top notch designer insights, the daring cover stories, the wowing interviews, the dishy shoots and the inspiring fashion, MR PORTER can be explored for the mere aesthetics of the site. As an online experience it is quite fascinating – the design is neat, typography puristic, the space is used with calm aloofness and the colours are generously complementary without being boring. Wait a minute… could the site itself be the portrait of a MR PORTER?

Luxurymenblog liked the repeated use of each contributor’s title in the credits. Nice touch, Mr.

Night out in London: CirqueLeSoir

Gentlemen and fellow followers,

As it is the year of the Horse, with apparently a heated year in front of us, Luxurymenblog will be diverting this tension by sharing with you some of the best luxury places to go out in London. If you are planning a night out in London to party in some of the most exclusive clubs we recommend the Ace of Clubs. Providing a top notch luxury service, these hosts provide a high quality guestlist to the most exclusive clubs in the capital.

logoace

In addition, their run a table reservation service should you want to properly party in London with your friends, work colleagues after a hard week in the office, or simply an event you would like to host.

We met the brilliant team last weekend whilst visiting one of the top and most exclusive clubs in London, Cirque Le Soir. The club situated near Oxford Circus is located in Ganton street (next to Carnaby street). Cirque Le Soir is one of London’s most sought after nightclubs and entrance is highly exclusive, usually demonstrated by a long line of people queuing in front of the club in the cold weather. The “Ace of Clubs” definitely knows how to put on an event.

profile_270991661_75sq_1368973746

Cirque Le Soir, opened in 2009, is a circus theme nightclub boasting incredible performances. For our international gentlemen, Cirque Le Soir also have a club in Dubai and Shanghai. From sword-swallowers, fire-eaters all with a burlesque angle.

CLS 1

Not to mention the dwarves, magicians and clowns that roam the club. They have a range of different events every night of the week, from Bordel nights on Friday to Hip Hop Saturday nights to mention a few.

photo

There are also a few nice additions to the club, from video games, bear ping pong table, fortune teller and in case you are hungry at 2AM, a pop corn and crepe stand! At our luxury table organised by the Ace of Clubs for us, the Belvedere was flowing all night long.

The fellow gentlemen whom we were with were all from very interesting backgrounds. It’s always a pleasure to meet new people especially in a time poor city like London!

To go out in London especially to luxury and most exclusive nightclubs there are a few ways to get in. Queuing is an option, however in the cold weather that we are currently experiencing we suggest to use this alternative as a final resort. A smarter option is to get in touch with our fellows from the Ace of Clubs as this is their speciality.

So gentlemen, if you are planning a night out in London are would like to discover the mysterious wonders of Cirque Le Soir, we suggest you get in contact with the Ace of Clubs team as soon as possible for a great and eventful evening!
